Under-The-Hill-Saloon would like to invite you to join us for the 1st Annual Under-The-Hill Luau this Saturday, August 14th, 2004.

Andre' and the gang have really geared up to provide an incredible back to school blowout and we have a lot of goodies in store!

The night will start by the crowning of the Big Kahuna at 8:30 PM, followed by three other events: Hula, Limbo, and Costume contests.

There will be three prizes given for each contest: 1st place wins a free overnight stay at the Mark Twain Guesthouse, 2nd place wins a $25 bar tab, and 3rd place wins a free Escape CD & T-shirt.

Assorted drink specials and free party favors will be given out so make sure to come to Under-The-Hill-Saloon on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi Saturday, August 14th, for a night of Luau Hysteria that won't be back again until 2005!

If you wanted a girl at Nellie Jackson’s place, you arrived before midnight and you arrived sober.

They were simple rules, but effective ones. For the better part of 60 years they had helped Nellie Jackson stay in business as the best-known madam in this Mississippi River town.

For that long, the city fathers – police chiefs, mayors, aldermen – had turned a blind eye to the goings on in the nondescript frame house with the red striped awnings on North Rankin Street.

Throwing Money Away

Visitors to the saloon will see a lot of pieces of paper hanging from the saloon’s ceiling, and upon a closer look they will notice the paper is actually paper money.

Years ago, nobody really seems to remember when, the tradition of throwing money away started.
